On July 20th, 2014, Joey Votto from the Cincinnati Reds came back to Ronald McDonald House Charities of Greater Cincinnati to read books to our families. This was exactly one year to the day that he visited the House last year, and became the first person to read the first published copy of “There’s Something Different About My Hair.”
A feeling of “deja vu” came over me as he read the book again to new families, one year later.
It was an amazing experience for everyone there to take a break from the everyday stress of being sick, having a sick child, being in a hospital, taking medicine, and listening to nurses and doctors talk. Instead, the scene was one of laughing, great stories, autographs, pictures, and most importantly, plenty of smiling.
I appreciate the fact that Joey enjoyed reading the book so much last year that he chose to read it again this year. It was an honor, a pleasure, and a humbling experience…again.
